Two San Rafael, California residents required emergency medical treatment after separate squirrel attacks in the same neighborhood. Joan Heblack described how the animal unexpectedly pounced. “It just clamped onto my leg and was just hanging on. The tail was flying up here, I was like get off me! get off me! I didn’t want to touch it,” Heblack said. The squirrel’s claws cut deep enough to send her to the hospital. Isabel Campoy and her niece encountered a similar incident while walking in the area. “The squirrel went to the floor and… tried to jump up to my face, which I tried to protect and then my arm was completely overcome by the squirrel,” Campoy said. “Finally it jumped off and by then I was full of blood, I ran to the emergency room.” Neighbors posted warning flyers about the “very mean squirrel” that reportedly attacked more than five people.
