FARGO (KVRR/KFGO) – Doctors at Sanford Health say they don’t plan to stop recommending acetaminophen to pregnant women. Earlier this week President Trump claimed a link between acetaminophen use during pregnancy and autism.
The drug is commonly used by pregnant women to deal with aches, pains, and to handle fevers. Sanford health’s chief physician, Doug Griffin, says what medications a pregnant woman takes should be decided between patients and their doctor.
Griffin says Sanford doctor’s are free to continue recommending acetaminophen to their pregnant patients and maintained the drug’s safety when used appropriately. Griffin maintained people should speak with their health care provider before taking any over the counter drugs or supplements.
