Fugees rapper Pras Michel missed his scheduled sentencing hearing on Friday (August 29) after undergoing “emergency surgery for colon cancer removal,” according to his spokesperson, Erica Dumas. The medical procedure delays the proceedings in his 2023 criminal case where he was found guilty of conspiring to defraud the U.S. government, witness tampering, and acting as an unregistered foreign agent. Michel faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, with the federal government seeking the forfeiture of nearly $65 million linked to his efforts to influence the Trump administration to drop an investigation into Malaysian fugitive Jho Low. Michel’s next hearing is set for October 3, with Dumas sharing that he is “recovering right now until he is in the clear and focused on spending time with his family ahead of sentencing,” while adding that the musician “remains hopeful for his future.” (People)
