Rapper Lil Nas X pleaded not guilty on Monday (August 25) to four felony charges stemming from his arrest last Thursday. Nas, born Montero Hill, faces three counts of battery against a police officer and one count of resisting an executive officer, following an incident in Los Angeles where he was found wandering Ventura Boulevard in underwear and cowboy boots. Detained over the weekend, Hill was arraigned Monday with bail set at $75,000, and he was eventually released pending a pretrial hearing on September 15. He faces up to five years in prison if convicted. The arrest followed reports of an incoherent, nude man acting erratically early Thursday morning, leading police to detain and hospitalize him on suspicion of a potential overdose. “Attacking police officers is more than just a crime against those individuals but a direct threat to public safety,” said Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman in a statement. “Anyone who assaults law enforcement will face serious consequences, no matter who they are or how famous they may be.” (Variety)
