A surfer in Cabarita Beach, Australia narrowly avoided injury when his surfboard was bitten in half by a suspected great white shark. Coast Cam footage shows surfer Brad Ross in the water at 7:26am on Monday, when a dark shape suddenly appeared next to him. Witness Kane Douglas described an “explosion of water and foam” as the shark attacked. While Ross made it safely back to shore, his surfboard was split into two pieces, with a large bite taken out of the middle. Drone camera footage captured the estimated 16-foot great white shark moments after the incident. Local authorities immediately closed Cabarita Beach for the rest of the day as a precaution, though no one was injured. Ross was able to examine the damaged remains of his surfboard, as beachgoer Kim Maree recorded the aftermath.
