On Friday a hostage situation unfolded at a Saginaw Township bank, leading to a standoff with Michigan state police that lasted several hours. Around 5:30 p.m., a man took a Mercantile Bank employee hostage inside the building located on State Street, one of the area’s busiest commercial corridors. Police shut down a half-mile stretch of the street as they negotiated with the suspect. A drone was used to deliver a beverage to the man, and when he exposed himself, a trooper was able to take a shot. The suspect was killed, while the hostage sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was discharged from the hospital overnight. The bank will remain closed until further notice. (Mlive)
