Police in South Carolina were involved in an unusual pursuit when they chased a tractor excavator down a main highway for over an hour at a speed of 3mph, equivalent to the pace of an average adult walking. The slow-speed chase took place early Sunday morning in North Charleston. Officers initially spotted the construction equipment crossing US Highway 78 around 3:30 am and later received a burglary call from a heavily damaged business, where they saw the excavator slowly moving away. Multiple police cars joined the pursuit, with cruisers periodically stopping to avoid overtaking the slow-moving excavator. The chase concluded after 1 hour and 12 minutes when the excavator became stuck on Charleston County fairgrounds property. The driver attempted to flee but was apprehended by a police dog and handler. The 53-year-old driver was charged and detained in the Charleston County Jail. (Newser)
