A recent study analyzing data from over half a million U.S. workers found that people in community and social services had the highest rate of diagnosed depression at 20.5 percent. Following closely were food prep and serving jobs at 20.1 percent. Other industries with high depression rates included arts, entertainment, sports, media, accommodation, food services, health, social assistance, retail trade, legal, education, and library jobs. In contrast, mining, construction, agriculture, and engineering jobs reported lower depression rates. Despite this, mining and construction had the highest suicide rates due to stigma and limited mental health services access. On the other hand, there are low-stress, high-paying jobs like water source specialist, astronomer, and actuary, as reported by Resume Genius. (The-independent)
