Research published in Psychological Bulletin indicates that excessive screen time can lead to socioemotional problems in children. A meta-analysis of 117 studies found associations between screen time and issues like anxiety, depression, hyperactivity, and aggression, particularly in girls. Children under 2 with any screen time, 2-5-year-olds with over an hour per day, and older kids with over 2 hours per day were at higher risk. The study suggests that kids experiencing emotional difficulties may turn to screens for relief, creating a harmful cycle. Setting limits, using parental controls, and providing alternative activities are recommended to address these concerns and promote better mental health in children. (Cnn)
