A chaotic incident in Florida resulted in the death of a 42-year-old man, Timothy Schulz, after an encounter with both an alligator and sheriff’s deputies. According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, deputies responded to a call about a man swimming in an alligator-infested lake. Witnesses reported that Schulz “growled” at them when they tried to offer assistance. Schulz emerged from the lake with an alligator bite on his right arm. When deputies arrived, they observed him attempting to break into a vehicle. Judd stated that Schulz then charged the deputies with a pair of garden shears, and attempts to Taser him were unsuccessful. Deputies ultimately opened fire when Schulz entered an idling patrol vehicle and attempted to access a firearm. Schulz had recently been released from jail for methamphetamine possession and appeared to be under the influence of drugs during the confrontation. (newser)
