Colorado Man Sues Rockies Over Foul Ball and Blames Team’s Bad Record for His Lack of Attention
A Colorado man is suing the Colorado Rockies for injuries he says he suffered after being nailed in the face by a foul ball — and he’s partially blaming the team’s terrible record for it.
Timothy Roeckel filed the lawsuit in Denver District Court this week, claiming he was sitting in a luxury suite during a 2023 game against the Yankees when a foul ball slammed into him, causing permanent injuries.
While most lawsuits of this kind focus on stadium netting and fan safety, Roeckel’s legal team took a curveball approach, arguing that “the Rockies’ long-standing poor performance on the field” led to an atmosphere where spectators, especially those in luxury suites, are less engaged with the game and more likely to be caught off guard. Translation: The team was playing so badly, no one was watching.
The lawsuit also cites inadequate protective netting as a contributing factor. No word yet on how the Rockies plan to respond, but if this opens the door to lawsuits based on the team being painful to watch the Rockies might want to lawyer up because the 2025 season isn’t looking any better!
