Florida Man Offers Deputies a Vodka Spritzer During Car Chase, Asks “You Guys Had Fun Though, Right?”
In what might be the most on-brand “Florida Man” moment of the year so far, Richard Christopher Smith attempted to turn a police chase into a happy hour on wheels. The 49-year-old was pursued by deputies after allegedly stealing multiple items, including booze, from a local convenience store, and things only got weirder from there.
As deputies gave chase, Smith leaned out the window and offered one of them a Ketel One vodka spritz, telling the officer: “I was just going to give you a drink, that’s it.”
Unfortunately for Smith, deputies weren’t feeling thirsty. He continued the pursuit until all four tires were flattened by spike strips near the Sebring Regional Airport. At that point, Smith still wasn’t ready to call it a night.
He allegedly tried to ram two patrol cars before hopping out and attempting the world’s calmest getaway, lighting a cigarette and casually strolling away from a fully surrounded scene. When deputies caught up, he had just one question, “You guys had fun, though, right?”
Deputies responded by tasing and arresting him.
Smith now faces multiple charges, including grand theft, aggravated assault on law enforcement, and fleeing and eluding.
