FARGO (KFGO) – 36-year-old Zachary Payne was arrested Friday morning after Fargo Police received burglary calls about 30 minutes apart.
Court documents say staff at The Meadows Assisted Living in Fargo called police around 4:15 Friday morning after a man was seen walking around the hallways. Multiple residents told officers that a man they did not know came into their rooms. Police found 3 stolen cell phones that had been dropped by the suspect.
Officers searched the building, and found a window in the therapy gym had been broken, and someone had gone through the cabinets.
About a half-hour later, police responded to CVS on 13th Avenue for a burglary report. The suspect was quickly located biking near the store. He was detained, and was searched. Officers found stolen cell phones from CVS, a laptop, iPad, and medication that belonged to an occupational therapist at The Meadows, medical supplies, and food.
Payne told officers he was a volunteer at The Meadows who worked with youth during an after school program. Court documents note that there is no after school program since the Meadows is an assisted living facility.
Payne is charged with burglary, theft, and criminal mischief.
He has a long criminal record, including multiple burglary and theft cases.
