Unfortunate Scam in Mayfield Heights, Ohio, Cost One Woman $6,000 and Her Dignity
An unfortunate scam cost one woman from Mayfield Heights, Ohio, $6,000 and her dignity to a fraudulent scheme. The scam began with a phone call about supposed fraudulent activity on her bank account. The caller convinced her to transfer her money to a Chase Bank debit card in her Apple Wallet, which subsequently vanished into an unknown account.
The scam then took an even more disturbing turn. Later the scammer FaceTimed the woman, pretending to be a bank employee, and claimed that a ‘full body scan’ was needed to verify her identity due to a ‘failed transaction.’ Believing the ruse, the woman complied, undressing and spinning in circles until she heard the scammer laughing, finally realizing she had been duped.
Authorities are reminding everyone that no legitimate financial institution will ever ask for such actions via FaceTime. Remember, your bank will never ask you to get naked on FaceTime!
