Priest Caught Spending Church Money On Candy Crush And Mario Kart
A Catholic priest in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, Reverend Lawrence Kozak, finds himself embroiled in a financial scandal revolving around his alleged misuse of church funds on popular mobile games. Kozak, aged 51, faces charges of theft and related crimes following revelations that he spent $40,000 over three years on Candy Crush Saga and Mario Kart Tour.
The accusations came to light when an accountant scrutinizing the church’s financial records was taken aback by the substantial number of Apple transactions associated with Reverend Kozak. This discovery prompted an investigation into the source and nature of these expenditures.
Further complicating matters, it was discovered that Kozak had an Amazon account linked to the church, allegedly utilized for personal purchases. Consequently, he was removed from his position at the church in November 2022 after an internal inquiry into his spending habits exposed his gaming addiction and the misuse of church funds.
Despite the gravity of the charges against him, Kozak has since been released on bail of $250,000, with his attorney currently reviewing the legal proceedings. In a gesture of contrition, following his removal from the church, Kozak reportedly sent an $8,000 check labeled “parish reimbursements” to the newly appointed church leader. Alongside the payment was a note wherein Kozak expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging his mistake, and outlining his intention to fully repay the church for the funds he had misappropriated.
