MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Two Moorhead Area Public School District buses collided in a rear-end crash on 34th St. S in Moorhead late Thursday afternoon.
Superintendent Brandon Lunak says there were no serious injuries. The collision was in front of Zip’s Car Wash, north of Holiday Stationstore.
Lunak says there may have been up to 50 kids on each bus.
According to the Moorhead Police Department, three buses were were traveling south in a line when the middle bus changed lanes. The bus that was in the front of the line slowed due to traffic and was rear-ended by the third bus. Police say initial reports indicate that the driver of the third bus may have been distracted by student behavior on the bus.
Lunak says the fact that there were no serious injuries is proof that the buses are safe, but adds that kids need to understand that they should be sitting and not being a distraction to the driver. He says they will review what happened leading up the crash and determine next steps based on what they find.
Moorhead Police, Moorhead Fire, the State Patrol and Sanford Ambulance responded to the scene.
