ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) – Charges have been filed against a St. Paul man who shot himself during an elementary school open house earlier this month.
The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office says Lamont Ray, 30, is facing one count of recklessly handling a dangerous weapon which is a gross misdemeanor, and possession of a dangerous weapon on school property.
It was on January 18 at Como Elementary when Ray’s unholstered gun discharged accidentally while he was playing basketball in the gymnasium. Ray was shot in the leg.
Dozens of families were nearby, but no one else was hurt. Ray is expected to make a full recovery.
Ray had a permit to legally carry the weapon. If convicted, he faces up to a year in prison and up to $3,000 in fines.
