FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – ValleyCon has announced safety measures for this year’s event.
“You don’t want anybody to get hurt by anything at an event. It’s for everyone’s safety,” ValleyCon chairman Tony Tilton said.
ValleyCon leadership said they began to think more about security and safety after the July 14 shooting in south Fargo that claimed the life of Officer Jake Wallin.
“Fargo is not the small little community that nothing ever happens in it anymore. 25th Street pointed that one out,” Tilton said.
Tilton said they received safety and security recommendations from local officials and law enforcement. Those recommendations include metal detection wands, security checkpoints, and costume inspections.
Tilton said security measures at ValleyCon will be similar to events at Fargodome, or Newman Outdoor Field.
“We’re not digging through everything, but we are checking to see if there is anything that shouldn’t be coming in,” Tilton said.
ValleyCon is an annual pop culture festival. This year’s event runs from Oct. 13-15 at the Holiday Inn.
