ST. PAUL, Minn. – Starting Tuesday, people who move to Minnesota are no longer required to pass the state’s written driver’s license test if they have a valid license from another state.
Sen. Foung Hawj of St. Paul said 20 other states only require the driver to pass a vision check and Minnesota’s policy should be as simple as others. Hawj said the Department of Motor Vehicles is facing overwhelming demand to administer written tests, and the new law will ease some of that burden.
Hawj said it will also help qualified drivers with language barriers from being delayed in getting a Minnesota license.
