WASHINGTON – Minnesota’s entire congressional delegation has written to President Joe Biden, asking him to approve Gov. Tim Walz’s request for a major disaster declaration to make federal assistance available.
The assistance would be for 35 counties and the Prairie Island Indian Community, and would cover the period April 11-30.
The lawmakers point to flooding caused by record snowfalls and a colder-than-normal March which led to large snowpacks.
They say areas along the Mississippi River reached their highest water levels in over 20 years, the Saint Croix River rose to major flood stage, and there was flood damage in northern and western Minnesota, including the Red River Valley.
