ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO KFGO) – Police in St. Paul are investigating a fatal shooting that took place early Saturday morning.
Just before 7:30 a.m., police say they received the call of a shooting on the 2300 block of Chilcombe Avenue in St. Paul’s St. Anthony Park neighborhood. When police arrived at the scene, they found a man suffering from gunshot injuries.
The man, identified Sunday as 44-year-old Michael Brasel, was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died. The county medical examiner’s office said he died from “multiple gunshot wounds.”
Brasel’s wife said on social media he was shot in his front yard after confronting someone trying to break into her car.
According to a GoFundMe account set up for his family, Brasel also leaves behind two sons. It says mentions Brasel was a “devoted coach who inspired and encouraged countless young athletes.”
The Roseville Area Youth Hockey Association confirmed Brasel coached for them.
No arrests have been made. During a Saturday press conference, police called the homicide unusual for the “usually quiet” neighborhood.
It’s the 13th homicide in St. Paul this year.
