RED WING, Minn. – A Red Wing woman is sentenced to 27 years in prison for the death of her infant son nearly 20 years ago.
Jennifer Matter, 50, was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of the infant found along the shore of Lake Pepin in December 2003.
Matter admitted to placing the boy near the water without clothes or a blanket and driving away.
DNA testing revealed Matter is also the mother of a baby girl recovered from the Mississippi River in 1999 near Red Wing.
Goodhue County Sheriff Marty Kelly said Friday marked the day, after a long 24 years, where justice has been served.
