FARGO (KFGO) – Cass County State’s Attorney Birch Burdick says there are indications that a man who was been arrested in the shooting death of a man in Casselton last weekend was acting in self-defense.
At this point, Burdick says no charges will be filed against 23-year-old William Dittmer Jr. Dittmer said 50-year-old Duane Turchin threw at drink at him, placed his hand around his neck and choked him. Dittmer then shot Turchin. He unloaded the gun, called 911 and waited for deputies to arrive.
Dittmer had a concealed-carry permit. Sheriff Jesse Jahner says if additional evidence comes to light, charges could be reconsidered.
