ST. PAUL, Minn. – Advocates say it is no coincidence that Problem Gambling Awareness Month and the NCAA Basketball Tournament are both in March.
Susan Sheridan Tucker with the Minnesota Alliance on Problem Gambling said many of us will be taking part in an office bracket pool which can be a lot of fun.
“We really want people to be safe and do ‘healthy play’ which means never spending more money than you can afford to lose,” Sheridan Tucker said. “We suggest to people that you set time and money limits whenever you’re gambling.”
Sheridan Tucker said she has concerns about sports betting on mobile apps that offer a lot of different wagering opportunities.
An estimated 68 million Americans will wager more than $15 billion on the NCAA tournament this year.
