MANDAN, N.D. – A Mandan woman has been sentenced to two years of probation for neglecting children in her care.
Prosecutors say the three children, all under 8, were unsupervised in a dirty house where they had access to guns and knives. Twenty-six-year-old Hope Althoff pleaded guilty to three felony counts of child neglect and misdemeanor animal neglect in South Central District Court.
Police were called to Althoff’s home in late June by neighbors who saw children playing unsupervised outside in dirty clothes. Police say a dog, a cat and an iguana were found in cages in poor condition. A judge also ordered Althoff to complete substance abuse evaluation and treatment.
