Maureen Wanner, President of the ND Board of Cosmetology, speaks with It Takes Two with Amy & JJ about the upcoming re-opening of salons and barbershops. There will be changes and you will be providing your own magazines – but at least the home haircuts can stop!
If you are one of the MANY North Dakotans who are looking a bit shaggy after more than a month without the ability to go to see your local hairdresser or barber, this weekend is your first chance to have your “ears lowered.” What should you know before you go? Here are some tips.
- Workers will be wearing masks. They would appreciate you wearing masks as well.
- No candy dishes or coffee. The frills of enjoying an afternoon in the salon chair are on hold.
- Magazines and other reading materials will not be available. Bring your own People or US Weekly to enjoy…and then take it with you.
- No waiting area. You will be asked to check in (via phone) and then sit tight in outside the facility. Stay in your car, enjoy KFGO while you wait. They will signal you when it is time to come in and sit down.
- This might be a time to avoid extras. Eyebrow waxing, for example, should wait for another time. In and out as quickly as possible.
- Come to your appointment alone. Don’t bring guests or other family members – if you can help it. Those who are bringing young children can accompany them, but please leave anyone who is not receiving a service at home.
- Be brutally honest about what you have done to your hair…this has nothing to do with Governor Burgum’s guidelines, but your stylist/barber will appreciate it. If you tried a home dye job – when and what color. Did you attempt to trim your own bangs…they can tell, now come clean about what you did in the back. These people are professionals and this is their time to shine. Walk in shaggy and walk out feeling like a new person!
