HARVEY, N.D. – Charges are pending against a semi driver who was seriously hurt when a train struck his rig in Wells County.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the crash happened shortly after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, five miles southeast of Harvey.
Rodney Lund, 65 of Anamoose, N.D., was pulling an empty trailer on 23rd Street Northeast and failed to make a complete stop at a railroad intersection marked with stop signs.
The Highway Patrol said as the truck began crossing the tracks, a westbound Canadian Pacific train hit the trailer on the driver’s side, causing the truck tractor to rotate counterclockwise.
The truck tractor came to rest on the west side of the tracks.
Lund was life-flighted to a Bismarck hospital with what troopers called serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.
Lund was wearing a seat belt.
