Grand Forks, N.D. – After rallying to defeat Northern Iowa 29-27 last weekend, North Dakota will return to non-conference action this weekend and will visit Northern Arizona. The Fighting Hawks and Lumberjacks will face off at Findlay Toyota Field at 3 p.m. (CT) on Saturday.
Last weekend, Tommy Schuster went 21-for-24 through the air for 297 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing seven times for 11 yards and a score in the win. Schuster’s two points on a successful two-point conversion attempt early in the fourth quarter ended up being the difference. With his 21 completions, Schuster has now completed the most passes in UND’s Division I history with 429, breaking the previous record of 428 held by Keaton Studsrud (2014-17).
Bo Belquist and Isaiah Smith were Schuster’s favorite targets. Belquist brought in five receptions for 85 yards and a score, while Smith had five grabs for 65 yards. Tyler Hoosman was also a force to be reckoned with in the game, recording his first 100-yard rushing game of his career and leading UND on the ground with 101 yards and a touchdown.
Devon Krzanowski was the top Hawk defensively with five tackles. Josh Navratil led UND with two sacks in key moments of the game, which was good for a career high to go with four tackles.
Last weekend for the Lumberjacks, Northern Arizona took down Sam Houston, 10-3. The Lumberjacks posted their best defensive effort on the road since 2006, holding the Bearkats to just a first-quarter field goal, the lowest points scored against NAU since a 54-3 win over Northern Colorado.
R.J. Martinez led the NAU offense, going 27-for-41 for 214 yards passing. Martinez found the end zone with just over two minutes left before halftime, pushing through the middle for the one-yard score after a seven-yard reception from Coleman Owen.
Heston Lameta paced the Lumberjack defense with eight solo tackles and a sack. Morgan Vest was the next most productive defender with six tackles and two pass breakups.
The game between No. 22 UND and NAU will air live on AM 790 FM 104.7 and the Home of Economy Radio Network with the pregame show starting at 2 p.m. (CT). On the radio, Jack Michaels and Tom Dosch will have the call with Paul Ralston serving as the sideline reporter.
