MOORHEAD (KFGO) – The Moorhead School Board has approved new attendance area boundaries in the district for the 2022-2023 school year.
Superintendent Dr. Brandon Lunak said the district continues to experience steady growth and is nearing or at capacity at Dorothy Dodds and S.G. Reintertsen Elementary schools.
A survey was conducted to get input from district families and a task force made up of elementary parent representatives and school district administrators developed recommendations that were presented to the board in March. A second review requested by the board to balance student needs, numbers, and sections was then approved at the Monday board meeting.
School board Member Matt Valan said it was a thorough, but a challenging process that needed to happen. He said, “what I’m doing is pleading for the community, for parents, for staff to be patient and keep letting us know where the problems are and we will do our best but everyone won’t be pleased.”
Approximately 277 current students will be impacted by the change that will begin in the next school year. Families are in the process of being notified by the district and an exception process has been established for families who would like their students to stay at their current school.
