A new poll found three in five Americans hate how their smile looks in photos. Take that stat with a grain of salt though. A braces company that competes with Invisalign paid for the study. It did ask a few other fun questions though . . .
76% of Americans said they don’t always smile for photos, including some who never do. So what do people do instead?
The most popular choice is an emotionless “poker face.” 46% said they sometimes do that instead of smile. And just covering your mouth is next.
Doing a shocked or “surprised face” is third, followed by a full frown, and then a “kissy face” or “ducklip” pose.
31% of people also now say they’ve put a MASK on if they didn’t want to smile in a photo. And 22% have just turned their back on a camera before.
The poll also found that your smile . . . or non-smile . . . is the first thing people notice when they see a photo or video of you online.
The rest of the top things that affect a first impression are your eyes, your voice, your clothes, and your hair.
Half of people also said spelling and grammar, and the type of stuff you post on social media can affect their first impression of you online.
