ST. PAUL, Minn. – Don’t drink and drive this holiday season. That’s the message as law enforcement officials statewide are stepping up patrols to keep impaired drivers off of the roads.
Minnesota State Patrol Lieutenant Gordon Shank says he’s arrested drunk drivers, and many of them.
“If they could change one thing that night, they would have called a friend, a family member, a cab, whatever it may be – make that plan,” Shank said. “And if they’re fortunate enough to look back and say, ‘I should have done this,’ that’s a win for them. Because there’s families that never have that option of talking to that family member again about what they should have done.”
During the last five years, 26 people died in drunk driving-related crashes during the holiday DWI extra enforcement period.
