BISMARCK (KFGO) – The North Dakota Public Service Commission has approved a plan to give Xcel Energy more time to collect natural gas costs from customers, due to the price increases during a February cold snap in the southern part of the country last winter.
The PSC had originally approved a 15-month recovery period. The new plan would allow it to be collected over two years. That would lower the cost to customers, and would offset an interim rate increase granted Xcel for the cost of delivering the gas. Commissioner Brian Kroshus says he thinks the extension will ease the financial effect for some Xcel customers.
The added costs will be in effect until August 31, 2023.
