EDINA, Minn. (KFGO) – Searchers have recovered the body of a 2-year-old girl who was reported missing at a park.
Iklas Abdullahi Ahmed was reported missing around 5 p.m. Monday. Police said they believed she wandered away from her family while they were at Rosland Park.
Members of the Hennepin County Water Rescue team located the girl’s body in the water next to the park Tuesday afternoon.
“On behalf of the city, I want to send our deepest condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family and loved ones of this young girl,” said Edina Police Chief Todd Milburn. “Our hearts go out to all those affected by this devastating tragedy.”
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause of death.
The search included Edina police and fire and other agencies. In all, more than 150 people were assisting in the search.
