FARGO (KFGO) – At least five states have closed restaurants, bars, theaters and other establishments to prevent the spread of COVID-19. North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum says for now, that decision is being left up to owners and managers.
“At least for right now, the private sector should make those decisions” Burgum said. “They’ve got to think about how they would manage during this economic downturn, how do they keep enough revenue going to keep their employees paid?”
Burgum’s remarks were made during an interview on KFGO’s “News & Views.”
“We’re really focusing on personal responsibility. You can go to a park, you can go to some of our grocery stores and not be within six feet of somebody else. This is about not sneezing in somebody else’s face. It’s not about not going out in public.”
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control recommends that all events of 50 people or more to be postponed for the next 8 weeks.
All North Dakota public and non-public schools are closed through Friday.
