OXFORD, Miss. (NDSU Athletics) – The Ole Miss Rebels took two from North Dakota State in college softball Saturday, March 6, winning the first game of the doubleheader 8-0 in six innings and claiming a 3-1 victory in the nightcap at the Ole Miss Classic.
The Rebels (12-7) pounded out 20 hits in the doubleheader including a pair of home runs from No. 3-hitting third baseman Paige Smith, who went 5-for-8 with three RBIs and three runs scored on the day.
Nicole Licea and Skylar Padgett had the only two hits for the Bison in the opener. Madyson Camacho was 2-for-3 to lead the six-hit attack for NDSU in the second game, and Cara Beatty drove in NDSU’s only run with an infield single in the first inning.
Paige Vargas pitched four innings and took the loss for NDSU in Game 1. Lainey Lyle went all six innings in Game 2 for the Bison.
North Dakota State (1-8) is scheduled to close out play in the Ole Miss Classic with a single game against Samford (7-8) beginning at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, March 7.
