FARGO – Linton-HMB won their first state championship since 2003 with a 32-24 win over Cavalier in the 9-man championship on Friday.
Linton-HMB senior quarterback Lucas Schumacher finished with 17 rushes for 123 yards and 2 touchdowns while passing for 100 yards and 1 touchdown.
Cavalier senior quarterback Brannin Cleem rushed for 139 yards and 2 touchdowns, plus added 162 yards passing 1 touchdown.
Schumacher picked off Cleem twice in the first half and was named Senior Athlete of the Year in 9-man.
Linton-HMB is the first team since the 2009 Hankinson Pirates to win a 9-man championship with 2 losses as they finished 9-2 overall.
Sandy Laxdal coaches in his final game for Cavalier and was named Coach of the Year. Laxdal coaches 13 seasons and compiled a 120-25 overall record.
