SIOUX FALLS (KFGO) – Online retail giant Amazon has purchased land for the $200 million facility it plans to build in Sioux Falls.
The Seattle-based retailer will build in the Foundation Park industrial area in the northwestern part of the city.
As part of a grant application sent by city officials to the U.S. Economic Development Administration, Amazon leadership submitted plans for a distribution or fulfillment center that would bring 1,000 jobs to the city. The building could as large as 1-million square feet, set for an 80-acre parcel of land in the industrial park.
Several weeks ago, KFGO News reported that construction had begun on a similar warehouse-type center in north Fargo that could also mean 1,000 jobs for Fargo. Construction is continuing, with the city approving work 24/7.
City officials have declined to confirm or deny the report and Amazon has not filed any public documents related to the project. The company has also refused comment on its planned Fargo project.
