VALLEY CITY, ND (KFGO) – The family of a Valley City man has agreed to a $325,000 settlement in a federal civil rights lawsuit filed over his death after his arrest by Valley City police.
72-year-old Warren Lindvold died in a Fargo hospital six days after his arrest for drunken driving in May 2018. Lindvold had a pre-existing medical condition and died of a broken neck.
The settlement will be paid by the North Dakota Insurance Reserve Fund, on behalf of Valley City, two police officers and Barnes County.
The death also led to a criminal investigation, but the Cass County State’s Attorneys office decided not to bring any charges.
