FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – It’s confirmed. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels, one of the world’s premier flight demonstration teams in the world is returning to Fargo.
Dick Walstad, co-chair of the Fargo AirSho says the Blue Angels 2021 schedule was just released at the International Council of Air Shows Convention in Las Vegas. They will appear July 24th and 25th, one of 56 demonstrations at 29 air shows in 2021.
Heading up the elite squadron is the new Commanding Officer and Flight Leader, Fargo native, Commander Brian Kesselring, a Fargo South and Concordia College graduate and veteran Navy pilot.
Walstad says not only will a Fargo native head up the team, but the Blue Angels will also start flying the F/A-18E Super Hornet in 2021, the team’s 75th anniversary season. The move to the Super Hornet will mark the first time the team has changed aircraft since it moved from the A-4F Skyhawk II to the F/A-18 Hornet in 1986.
Walstad says Fargo has been a special place for the Blue Angels over the years making about nearly a dozen appearances. The flight team was last in Fargo in 2018.
Walstad says a delegation from Fargo is at the convention lining up other elements for the AirSho, including some that have never been seen in the 30-plus year history of the Fargo AirSho. More information on those demonstrations will be announced later.
