BATTLE LAKE, Minn. (KFGO/KBRF) – A man was killed in a shootout with law enforcement in Otter Tail County Friday.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office says the Otter Tail County SWAT team responded to a reported disturbance at a residence in the 30000 block of Twin Lakes Road in rural Battle Lake around 5:45 p.m. The caller reported stopping at the residence to check on a relative and finding the door barricaded. The caller told law enforcement a man eventually came to the door with a shotgun and pointed it at them, saying that the caller was trespassing. The man then reportedly hit the caller with the butt of the shotgun and forced them into their vehicle before returning inside and barricading the doors.
After arriving on the scene, the SWAT Team made attempts to communicate and negotiate with the man. The man fired at an armored SWAT vehicle and Douglas County SWAT and Red River Valley SWAT were called to assist.
The man later reportedly exit the home and pointed a gun at law enforcement. An officer then shot the man. Officers and medical personnel provided aid but the man died at the scene. No law enforcement officers were injured. The man has not been identified.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the shooting.
