BANGKOK, Sept 26 (Reuters) – Bangkok’s governor on Saturday declared Thailand’s capital city a disaster-affected zone after residents woke to widespread flooding with some roads inundated, and the prospect of more rain.

• Bangkok has experienced more than 24 hours of continuous rainfall, exceeding 150 mm (5.91 inches) in some parts of the city, with the weather agency forecasting thunder storms and heavy to very heavy rain over the weekend
• Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt said the situation “poses a risk to people’s lives … as well as damage to public and private property”
• The government has issued an emergency advisory for people living near canals to move possessions to higher ground
• Videos posted on social media showed cars inundated with water and emergency services providing assistance
• The Bangkok City Administration said it has opened a shelter for evacuees
