(KNFL/KFGO)- The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks opened the Miles Wolff Cup Playoffs with a commanding 5-1 victory over the Winnipeg Goldeyes, providing them a 1-0 lead in this Best-of-3 First Round Series. The lower-seeded RedHawks commanded the evening with a combination of stellar pitching and a trio of scoring plays. This crucial win for Fargo-Moorhead came off of the arm of Kyle Crigger, who faced off against Winnipeg’s Landen Bourassa.
Following a quiet first two frames from both ballclubs, Fargo-Moorhead’s Eric Filia broke the deadlock with a towering three-run home run in the bottom of the 3rd inning. This moonshot would prove to be a needle-mover of a play for the rest of the game, as momentum never left the RedHawks’ gloves and bats.
Tripp Clark and Dillon Thomas continued the onslaught in the bottom of the 7th inning, as both men hit RBI singles. Clark provided a 4-0 lead, with Thomas sweetening the pot to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Winnipeg would score a consolation run in the top of the 9th inning with two outs on the board to bring the score to 5-1, which put a small stain on Kyle Crigger’s outstanding evening, who had pitched a shutout up until that point.
RedHawks starter Kyle Crigger would go 8+ innings, giving up 1 run and striking out 9. Crigger would earn the well-deserved win. Tyler Jeans would provide his support for the final few pitches of the evening.
Goldeyes starter would be handed the loss, going 6 2/3 innings, giving up 5 runs on 11 hits.
