(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks would play the second game of a three-game series at Newman Outdoor Field against the Sioux City Explorers Wednesday evening, sitting only 2 1/2 games back of the 1st place Kansas City Monarchs in the West Division entering the night. Matt Walker would start on the mound for Fargo-Moorhead. He would be opposed by Sioux City’s Jarod Wright.
After an RBI groundout by Zac Vooletich in the top of the third, the RedHawks would put up five runs in the bottom of the inning. Jesus Lujano tied it with an RBI single, and Jose Sermo gave Fargo-Moorhead the lead with an RBI single with the bases loaded. Eric Filia would then drive in a run on an infield single, Dillon Thomas would draw a bases-loaded walk, and Matt Kroon drove in the final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.
Fargo-Moorhead would have a 5-1 lead until the bottom of the fifth, where Eric Filia would drive in a run on an RBI groundout to make it 6-1 RedHawks.
In the bottom of the seventh, with Nate Gercken pitching in relief for the Explorers, Jose Sermo would crush a three-run home run down the right field line to give the RedHawks a 9-1 lead. It would be his league leading 27th home run of the season.
RedHawks reliever Kahler Key would shut the door on Sioux City in the top of the ninth, as Fargo-Moorhead would win 9-1.
Fargo-Moorhead remains 2 1/2 games back of Kansas City in the West Division.
Matt Walker would get the win, as he would go six innings, while giving up three hits and one run that was earned, and striking out five batters. Jarod Wright of Sioux City would be the losing pitcher, as he went six innings, while giving up seven hits and six earned runs.
