Several Taylor Swift songs have been removed from TikTok videos posted by accounts connected to President Donald Trump and his political team.
The changes became noticeable after a Team Trump video featuring Swift’s 2020 song August was muted. The post showed Trump and Melania Trump watching fireworks, but TikTok later indicated that the audio was unavailable because of a copyright restriction.
Other political posts using Swift’s music were also affected. Songs including Father Figure and Opalite were removed from videos that had incorporated her work into pro-Trump messaging.
The removals come against the backdrop of Swift’s previously stated political positions. She endorsed Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential election and has publicly criticized Trump in the past. Swift also objected to AI-generated images that falsely suggested she supported his campaign.
Neither Swift nor her representatives have publicly detailed the reasoning behind the latest removals. The situation adds to a long-running debate over how musicians’ work is used in political content without an explicit endorsement from the artist.
