(KNFL/KFGO) – The RedHawks were looking to win an important divisional game, but instead drop the first game of the series 4-3. The RedHawks were able to get six hits in the first two innings, but would only finish the game with eight hits. The RedHawks would start lefty Eric Chalus and Sioux Falls would give the ball to lefty Thomas Dorminy.
Fargo-Moorhead got the bats going in the first inning, recording four hits with two outs in the inning. The first run would score on a Matt Kroon RBI double and the second would be driven home from a Tucupita Marcano RBI single.
The Canaries would cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third coming from an RBI single off the bat of shortstop Grady Mee.
Chase Engelhard would tie the game up for Sioux Falls in the bottom of the fifth, driving in a run on an RBI triple. Engelhard would score two batters later when Scott Combs would hit an RBI double making it a 3-2 game.
Just one inning later, Michael Curialle would add an insurance run when he crushed a solo home run to left field.
The RedHawks would load the bases in the top of the eighth with just one out in the inning. However their only run would come from a Tripp Clark fielders choice that scored Dillon Thomas.
Canaries closer Charlie Hasty would close the door in the ninth on a potential RedHawks comeback.
RedHawks starter Eric Chalus would get the loss after going 5.2 innings, striking out 6 and giving up 4 earned runs on 7 hits. Sioux Falls starter Thomas Dorminy would grab the win after going 6.0 innings, striking out 4 and giving up 2 earned runs on 7 hits. Charlie Hasty would be credited with the save for the Canaries.
