FARGO (KFGO/KVRR) – A date has been set for a special election in Fargo that will address changing the city commission to a ward-based council instead of an at-large commission. The election will be held October 6.
Former Commissioner and member of the Fargo Wards Steering Committee Arlette Preston says moving to a ward system would better represent all Fargo residents, and create accountability for addressing concerns in specific neighborhoods.
The city is planning to use paper ballots for the election since electronic voting equipment will not be available. Cass County also will not be able to administer the election because the date falls close enough to the November general election.
The election is estimated to cost the city of Fargo between $30,000 to $50,000.
