Houston Astros center fielder Brice Matthews left in the second inning of Sunday’s game against the Texas Rangers due to a left knee injury after running into the outfield wall.
Matthews slammed against the wall while trying to catch a Josh Jung fly in the bottom of the first. The ball slipped out of his glove after hitting the wall, which allowed Jung to reach third with a triple.
Matthews finished the inning after some attention from a Houston trainer, but manager Joe Espada opted to send pinch-hitter Taylor Trammell to the plate when Matthews’ spot in the order came up with two outs in the second.
Matthews, 24, owns a .197 batting average, seven homers and four stolen bases in 81 games this season.
