(KNFL/KFGO) – The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks would welcome in the Kansas City Monarchs, who lead the West Division, for the first game of a three-game series at Newman Outdoor Field in front of a sellout crowd. Kansas City would go with Austin Hansen on the mound. He’d be opposed by Fargo-Moorhead’s Matt Walker.
After a Colby Wilkerson sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 2nd inning, Kansas City would tie the game on a Josh Bissonette RBI single. They would take a 2-1 lead after an RBI groundout by Nick Martini. Fargo-Moorhead would respond by adding three more runs in the bottom of the 3rd on a Brian Fuentes RBI double, and a Jairus Richards 2-run single to make it 4-2 Fargo-Moorhead.
In the top of the 5th, Nick Martini would make it a one-run game on an RBI double, before J.D Davis, the former big-leaguer, smashed a 3-run home run to give the Monarchs a 6-4 lead.
Fargo-Moorhead wouldn’t respond until the bottom of the 7th, but they would respond in a big way. With the bases loaded, Jairus Richards would tie the game on a 2-run double, and then the next batter, Colby Wilkerson would hit a 2-run double himself to give the RedHawks an 8-6 lead. RedHawks All-Star closer Tyler Jeans would slam the door and secure the save for Fargo-Moorhead in an 8-6 win.
In this game, there would be a total of four lead changes. Fargo-Moorhead is also a half game back of Sioux Falls for 2nd place in the West Division, and are three and a half games back of Kansas City for 1st place.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow afternoon with the pregame show set for 2:30 PM on AM 740 The FAN KNFL Fargo/107.3 FM, 740thefan.com, and the 740 The FAN mobile app.
