Hisako Sakai, age 92, won the Care eSports Association’s 12th biannual tournament, defeating competitors in the fighting game Tekken 8. The Japanese grandmother topped eight senior participants ranging from 73 to 95 years old in virtual one-on-one matches. Sakai beat 74-year-old Goro Sugiyama in the finals. The tournament was livestreamed on Care eSports’ YouTube channel with commentary. The Care eSports Association organizes video game competitions specifically for senior citizens. Since launching its first tournament in 2019, the organization now hosts two annual events for winners from preliminary matches in Mie, Aichi and Gifu prefectures. Care eSports plans to expand to a fully-national tournament format in the future. (Story URL)
