Anthony Geary, the eight-time Daytime Emmy winner who portrayed Luke Spencer on General Hospital, has died at age 78 from complications during a medical procedure. His husband Claudio Gama confirmed the death to TV Insider, stating “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.” Geary joined the ABC soap opera in 1978, playing the street-smart hustler whose romance with Laura Webber became a cultural phenomenon. Their 1981 on-screen wedding drew 30 million viewers and remains the highest-rated soap episode in American television history. The actor appeared in 1,997 episodes from 1978 to 2017, earning 17 Emmy nominations. He retired in 2015, moved to Amsterdam with Gama, and married him in 2019. (Story URL)
